Next weekend, I’ll be bringing a dose of the urban birding philosophy to the Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA with two guided birding walks and an interactive photo installation.
The festival, curated by the band Wilco, runs Friday through Sunday, June 21 to 23. Three-day passes and one-day tickets for Friday and Sunday are available here.
My urban birding walks are at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; we’ll meet in Courtyard A at MASS MoCA, at the sign shown above. From there, we’ll explore downtown North Adams, talking about how to look for good birding habitat in a city and logging our sightings along the way.
Like Holyoke, North Adams is a city with a strong industrial history that also has several geographic features favorable for birding. I’m looking forward to seeing what we find there, and to hearing about what folks have seen in their own neighborhoods.
