The last week brought a few new spring arrivals to the city, including two species I haven’t seen downtown before: a chestnut-sided warbler in Pulaski Park and a barn swallow mingling with tree and northern rough-winged swallows over the second-level canal near Lyman Street.
Also in Pulaski Park this week was an eastern towhee — a bird I’ve only seen once before downtown — along with regulars such as yellow warblers and Baltimore orioles. A few shots from the week below:
Decided to go to Pulaski park today. Such childhood memories. We heard the Towhee, saw B Orioles,Yellow warblers, 4 maybe 5 Redstarts,Catbirds,Cowbirds and my husband saw a Chimney Swift. We had such a good time. Thanks for posting
Great! I saw quite a few redstarts today. Heard orioles but didn’t see any.
There are always quite a few chimney swifts downtown — I saw them congregating over near a vacant block of apartments at Elm / Essex streets the other day. Made me wonder if that’s one of the places they’re roosting.
